Leveling Prot: Warrior Way of the Shield Part 1
Leveling as a Protection Warrior
When I first started up my warrior I was told to level as fury as it was supposedly the fastest leveling build. I really struggled with fury and found myself dying a lot. At this point I went out in search of a different way to level. I heard people talking on the WoW Forums about leveling protection and was intrigued. I tried a few specs out and here’s what I came up with.
Part 1: Leveling 1-20
Early on I decided to go with a build that focuses around taking multiple mobs at once. I specced into Improved Thunder Clap for additional damage and Incite to increase my crit chance by 15%. Shield Specialization is also very useful for the additional rage and block chance. At this point survivability starts to increase and taking a few mobs at once makes leveling quicker and more fun.
Part 2: Leveling 21-40
By now you’ll want to grab Glyph of Resonating Power.
This is where the real fun begins! I start off by speccing into Improved Revenge. The additional damage and stun effect make this an amazing offensive ability. I usually like to grab Last Stand as soon as I can, same goes for Shield Mastery. I spec into Toughness and once I can get to the next tier I grab Concussion Blow. This move is a ton of fun and its on a pretty short cooldown with a low rage cost. A must! At this point your thunderclaps don’t cost too much and crit like crazy. Hop on your mount, round up some foes and tear em’ up! Don’t forget to use your shield block all the time as well.
Part 2 to come!

Good stuff! yeah, I leveled prot on my warrior, and while it was my first toon (so i was a little unsure of what was going on) I didn’t seem to have much survivability issues. Definitely a fun way to level, going protection!

I’d really love to be able to stand the leveling of a Warrior, but I just can’t. Level 8 is my limit for the class, and then fall over dead from boredom. In the end, I think Rage is my problem. I hate the thought of starting a fight with no resources to use and ending with resources that will be wasted if I don’t rush right into another battle.
But, I do see a lot of people pimping the Prot Warrior lately, and I’ve seen a couple so I know they’re good. They just don’t seem to be the class for me.

I’ve had the same issues with warrior leveling that Psynister has had. I’d love to get serious about a warrior at some point, as I love the class in end-game. Perhaps taking your survivability ideas I can ease myself on into higher levels as taking on multiple mobs is always a rush, especially if you find yourself the last one standing!
