Leveling Subtlety Style and You: How to Stab Stuff
I have leveled my Rogue from level 1-60 in the Subtlety tree, and I found it to be a ton of fun. Its definitely slow to start but if you get into your character you can really enjoy it. Enemies go down fast and you get a few extra tricks to help you escape rough situations. I really liked how easy it is to sneak around. With the Subtlety tree you can really get close to your opponents and set up situations just how you like them. Sort of like a ninja. Ninjas are cool.
I picked up a few heirloom items before starting my rogue:
1x Stained Shadowcraft Spaulders
With all this fancy gear I was able to solo Wailing Caverns at level 17 and Ragefire Chasm at 15. Fun!
Levels 1-20
As I said before, leveling Subtlety is definitely slow. The first 20 levels should be focused on increasing your stealth. You will be the unseen! I don’t really like to bother with the Relentless Strikes or the Sleight of Hand. They only slow things down. I basically try and get to Ghostly Strike ASAP. This talent is great and it adds some survivability to your game. Now you are nearly invisible AND you have a good cooldown to help you in combat. At level 18 you will get Ambush. This move is so awesome. You will want to use this to pop yourself out of stealth once you can. After level 20 we will work on improving your ambush and it becomes extremely valuable.
Once you have ambush I suggest you go with something like Stealth —> Ambush—>Hemorrhage—>Eviscerate
Most things will die. I also cannot stress enough that you use Sap often. This talent lets you take enemies at your own pace. Its a must!
Levels 21-40
At level 25 you get the chance to pick up Improved Ambush. I suggest it! 25% crit increase per point for your Ambush. You will be doing some serious damage with Ambush. Nothings more fun than sneaking up and 1 or 2 shotting things. Needless to say, I fill out Improved Ambush. I also fill out Serrated Blades. I do this mostly because its a requirement for Hemorrhage. Hemorrhage is going to replace Sinister Strike as soon as you can get it. You can also get Preparation at level 30 and it’s a really great cooldown to help you escape a tight spot. There’s some room for creativity here but work towards getting Master of Subtlety. You will be attacking from the shadows most of the time and this gives you a great damage boost for your Ambush. Get started on the rest of Deadliness as well. It’s a great permanent damage boost.
More to come!
